How Bowen Originated

This gentle and powerful therapy was developed in Australia in the 1950's by self taught osteopath Tom Bowen. By 1974 Tom was treating 13,000 people a year ranging from small babies, expectant mothers, the old and the frail.

Tom passed his knowledge on to a handful of people who have continued to teach Bowen and allow it to treat people world wide. The technique is being taught to 3rd year chiropractors and Osteopaths in some countries and since its introduction to the UK in 1993 its has been gaining increased recognition within a variety of health modalities.

It is used by sportsmen including premier league footballers alongside sports massage to heal injuries and increase performance. It has also been developed for animals including cats and dog and the more commonly known equine therapy used on race horses.

Treatments are £40 or 3 treatments for £100

What is Bowen Technique?

Bowen is a series of soft tissue moves, mainly rolling type moves over muscle, tendons and ligaments. There is no manipulation and no deep tissue work or friction making it a relaxing and enjoyable treatment. It is non evasive and can be performed whilst the client is fully clothed. During the treatment their are breaks where there is no client  practitioner contact enabling the body to respond to the work being done.

As a holistic therapy it aims to treat the person as a whole. Since we do not often know the root cause of many symptoms it makes sense for the practitioner to treat the individual rather than focusing on the condition. Wirral Bowen Therapy

         How Does Bowen Work?

The series of bowen moves create a disturbance in the connective tissue thus releasing tension and drawing attention to that area of the body. The moves stimulate the body to self heal by rebalancing the energy and causing gentle muscle movement in the various systems of the body to restore healthy function.

The key and unique feature of Bowen is its short breaks. Following a set of moves the therapist will leave the room for several minutes. This time is required to allow the patients body the time and space that it needs to acknowledge the work and begin the self healing process. It is during these breaks that clients can often feel "tingling", stomach rumbling or as if the therapist hands are still touching them. All signs that the body is at work repairing where needed
